How to Dress for Pictures: What Not to Wear

There are a lot of things you shouldn’t wear for pictures – things that will make you look bad, or that will be distracting. Here are some things to avoid:

1. White – White can be very unforgiving, and it will make you look washed out in photos. Stick to darker colors if you want to look your best.

2. Black – Black can be just as bad as white, making you look flat and one-dimensional. Again, go for darker colors if you want to avoid this problem.

3. Busy patterns -busy patterns can be very distracting in photos, drawing attention away from your face and on to your clothes. Stick to simple, solid colors if possible.

4. logos – logos on clothes can often times be distracting or even offensive (if they’re for a brand that’s not universally loved). If you must wear a logoed shirt, try to keep it small and unobtrusive.

AVOID LARGE PATTERNS!

Regarding patterned clothing, less is definitely more when it comes to photos. Large patterns can be very distracting in photographs and can take away from the focus of the image, which should be you! If you do want to wear something with a pattern, go for a smaller scale print or consider wearing a solid color instead.

DON’T WEAR SHORT SKIRTS OR DRESSES!

As a general rule of thumb, it’s always best to avoid short skirts or dresses when having your picture taken. The last thing you want is for your photos to be marred by an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction, so it’s always better to be safe than sorry! Not to mention, revealing outfits can often be quite distracting and take away from the overall impact of the photo.

AVOID HEADBANDS AND LARGE BOWS FOR SMALL CHILDREN!

When you are having your picture taken with small children, it is important to avoid headbands and large bows. These can be very distracting and take away from the overall look of the photo. Instead, opt for simple hair accessories or no hair accessories at all. This will help keep the focus on the child’s face and create a more timeless portrait.

DON’T WEAR COATS WITH THE INTENT TO TAKE THEM OFF!

Taking your coat off in pictures is generally a bad idea. It makes you look like you’re trying too hard to be sexy, or like you’re not comfortable in your own skin. It also takes away from the overall aesthetic of the photo.

If you’re going to be taking pictures outdoors, it’s best to leave your coat on. The added layer will keep you warm and help you blend in with your surroundings. If you must take your coat off, make sure to put it back on as soon as the picture is done.

DON’T WEAR NEON OR BRIGHT COLORS!

Neon colors and bright colors can be very overwhelming in photos. They can also make it difficult for the viewer to see other aspects of the photo. If you want your photos to be striking, try to stick to more muted colors.
